How to help a cat settle into a new home

**I am sharing this animal communication success story and pet photos with the permission of Lilly’s wonderful human.**

Lilly is a regal queen cat. A feline who has been able to handle most things that have come her way in her three years on earth with confidence.

So when this brave cat was struggling to settle in after moving to a new house with her beloved human and two cat brothers and didn’t want to come out of hiding, this behavior change was concerning for her person. When Lilly’s human reached out for an animal communication session, she shared that Lilly had been hiding under the table instead of hanging out with her person and two cat brothers. For several weeks, she would only come out from her hiding spots at night.

Lilly the cat shares how she feels since the big move

Lilly’s person is an intuitive cat lover and knew this move was a big change for her cats. She had already done a wonderful job communicating with her cat friends about the big move before it happened. When I started communicating with Lilly, it was clear that she felt at ease knowing that she had made the move with her family and they were going to stick together, thanks to the preparations her person had made.

Next, Lilly shared her confusing and uncertain feelings surrounding just how different her new home felt to her. She missed the comfortable, cozy, den-like environment that her last house provided, compared to this much brighter and larger space. Here is what Lilly shared about her new home…

“I feel exposed in this new home with its tall vaulted ceilings. I feel afraid when I see people and dogs right outside the windows and doors, I am worried they are going to just walk right in here. And the supersized television hanging on the wall is unsettling to me. I am worried that it is some kind of weird portal where the people I see and can hear might just come into the room at any time!”

But there is more to Lilly’s story…

Lilly also shared she felt unsure about how weird her two cat brothers were acting since the move.

She described how territorial they had become. They were not bullying her or acting aggressively towards her, yet she shared the image of her brothers “strutting” through the house as they claimed their new space. She was deeply missing the comfort and connection her cat brothers typically offered her in their last home.

Lilly went on to share that everything in the home was new and different. Fragrances, sounds, furniture, light, vibe - even her cat brothers had changed seemingly overnight.

Lilly’s plan to make her new house a home

Lilly’s first and loudest concern was the uncertainty she was feeling about her new home. She shared that she didn’t feel safe exploring during the day with all of the activity happening right outside the windows and coming from the big new T.V.  Lilly requested that her human turn the T.V. off a little earlier in the evenings so she could explore and make sense of all of the little sounds her new house made that felt startling. She even asked if her person could pick her up and give her a tour of the house that evening to show her she is safe to explore the space and do things like climb up to her new perch to look out the window.

Lilly’s next big concern was trying to find a way to reconnect with her two cat brothers. She asked her person to remind them that they were safe here in this new house, that they had done a wonderful job of claiming the space and that they could relax now.

By the end of the session, it was clear how much more relaxed and relieved Lilly was feeling, having had the chance to share with her person what she was feeling and needing. Lilly was ready to get back on track!

Following weeks of hiding, after her animal communication session, Lilly felt safe again and came out of her shell to hang out with one of her cat brothers.

Success! Queen Lilly reclaims her courage

The next day, I received the best news from Lilly’s person. Here is what she shared:

“Lilly’s been out here with us nearly all day. We played last night and I thanked her for agreeing to the reading. I told her she could take her time and adjust.

Earlier, she got up on the perch and looked out at a lady and her dog walking by. She did not crouch or startle and I pointed out the fence which is the barrier and that everything inside the fence is ours and the lady is just enjoying the courtyard. She seemed interested.

Lilly has been happy and interactive with me all day. First time spending the whole day with us out here. Thank you for the work you do.” - Lilly’s beloved human

AND… a few days later, Lilly’s human shared this,

“Lilly was zooming up and down the long hallway just a few minutes ago. She’s out much of the day now doing whatever it is she wants and she’s eating better than she was. “ - Lilly’s beloved human
