What your pet's favorite snacks can reveal about their personality

Sometimes, the little things we learn about our pets reveal parts of their personality that make us fall even deeper in love with them.

In this post, I am sharing a story about a giant love of a dog and her request for a sandwich that might have you wondering what little things you'd love to discover about your own pet.

Dear Intuitive One,

There’s something deeply moving about discovering new things about your pet's personality. Especially those little details that make you think, “Oh. I love knowing this about you.”

Even something as simple as learning what your pet’s favorite snack is and why they love it so much can soften your shoulders and open your heart.

Meet Pearl, the dog who asked for more chicken sandwiches

Pearl, a giant love of a dog, recently shared during her session that she wanted more chicken sandwiches.

When she first shared this, I was like, “Wait. What? Is this even a thing?”

But as we talked, she doubled down, sharing the tastes and textures she associated with this tasty treat in vivid, scrumptious detail.

It isn't just about the chicken for Pearl

For Pearl, the magic of the chicken sandwich is in the crispy edges of fried chicken nestled in soft, fluffy, starchy bread and the slightly sweet, buttery sauce.

And it’s also about the deep feelings of love, connection, and shared elation she feels with her beloved human whenever a crispy chicken sandwich appears.

For Pearl, it’s each of these little details and the connection with her person that makes her feel over the moon about these fried chicken sandwiches.

And sure enough, during the session, her person confirmed that, yes, she does sometimes get chicken sandwiches when they go to town as a special treat.

When pets talk about their favorite treats in sessions, they often get very specific

It still always blows me away when pets talk about their favorite treats in sessions.

Because they aren’t simply saying “yes” or “no” when their people ask if they like something. It’s the pets themselves who bring up treats they’ve had before—or even seen their people eat.

And it’s often food I wouldn’t normally associate with pet treats...

Like Cheez-Its, soft-serve ice cream cones, popcorn, grilled cheese sandwiches, French fries through the car window, meatballs, freshly sliced bonito flakes, grilled steak, and steamed broccoli.

Often, pets share that the experience around the treat is just as important as gobbling down something tasty.

Like when pets talk about the deep connection they feel when their people share a bite of what they’re eating. Or the anticipation of knowing there will be fries coming through the car window soon, or the ritual of running behind their person after they’ve invited them into the kitchen for a treat.

The experiences they share are so often visceral, with deep and powerful emotions of love and connection woven into them.

It's the why that makes it so precious

Knowing what our pets love (and don’t) helps us see our animal friends more clearly and understand their quirks, unique preferences, and personalities—not just as “things we are guessing or assuming about them,” but as little pieces that make up who they are and why we love them so much.

There’s something heart-opening about being able to say:

I see and understand you.

I understand what makes you ridiculously happy.

And even...

I’m learning more about you all the time, and this feels like a gift.

What have you been wanting to ask your pet?

If Pearl’s story has you curious about what your own pet might want you to know about what they like (and would love more of), I'd love to help you explore that connection.

A little about me

Hi, I’m Joanna. I’ve been practicing animal communication for more than 20 years, and it still fills my heart every time an animal shares something that helps their person understand them in a new way.

For me, this work is about deepening the connection between you and your pets by helping your pet feel heard and helping you understand your pets’ unique feelings, needs, and perspective on life and purpose.

"Joanna is the real deal. She had a completely open channel to my dog and helped me understand what he is experiencing in his own words and feelings.

I now have an inside sense of the issues my boy is dealing with, as well as a way forward for all members of our 'pack'. Joanna is so warm, natural, and joyful, and I felt instantly at ease.

She's someone you can trust, and I'd recommend her without hesitation if you're looking for a deep insight into what your pet is experiencing, how they see the world, and what they need and want on both deeper soul and real-world levels.."
