What’s on your pet’s bucket list?

Knowing what is on your pet’s bucket list assures that the very best things in life don’t get lost in the everyday shuffle of chores, work and just getting stuff done.

In the spirit of our pet’s bucket lists, I’d love to tell you a little story about a heartwarming and delicious experience we helped my dog check off her bucket list (and caught on camera!).

Hello Dear Intuitive One,

I live with two 14 year old critters right now, cat friend Miss Kitty and old lady dog friend, Whiskey. While some days with the extra meds and special care it feels a little like I’m running a nursing home for my furry friends, the truth is, I love gray faced animals the most.

In part because of the ways they remind me just how precious life and our time together is.

Around here, part of supporting our older animals is regularly talking with them about what’s on their bucket lists. Getting to know what things they love best and having the chance to help them check off extra special requests off their list. And Whiskey’s most recent bucket list requests is beyond heartwarming.

Here’s the story…

My husband Steve and I took on a big cooking project last month to celebrate my 50th birthday. We set out to make homemade Indian pakoras, those bite sized flavorful chickpea battered veggies that are eaten with spicy chutney.  We don’t fry food very often and as soon as the first round of battered pakoras hit the hot oil, it filled the house with intensely spicy fragrance. Within seconds, Whiskey appeared in the kitchen begging for a bite.

Here’s the thing, this girl, Whiskey, isn’t a beggar, truly. I can leave a plate of food on the coffee table and leave the room. At worst, she might take a slow walk by and politely sniff my plate but would never consider taking food without asking… or even asking for food we are eating.

While we were frying pakoras, however, our girl was beside herself. She was wiggling, dancing, and breaking out all the stops to drill her beautiful brown eyes into the depths of our Soul trying to convince us to give her a bite. Unfortunately, the batter was full of onions so they were a no go for her. Instead, I sat on the floor with her and asked her all about what it was she was SO EXCITED about.

Talking with her, she shared from her perspective, what she thought was in the pan, eggs, fluffy white bread frying up in oil.

Along with the images and sensations she was sharing about the eggs and bread was the feeling of being loved and close to the person she lived with before us, all coupled with the taste of maple syrup.  Ah Ha! She thought we were cooking French Toast! And, more than anything else in the world, she wanted to taste it one more time.

So the next day, we made up a dog friendly version of French Toast just for Whiskey! Check out the clip below to see her excitement!
