The Number-One Thing your Animals wish you’d do for them

The number one question clients ask in animal communication sessions is “How can they help their animal friends be happier?”

The overarching response from animals might surprise you!

Here’s what they want you to know…

Hello Dear Intuitive One,

The number one question clients ask in animal communication sessions is “What can they do to help their animal friends be happier?”

The overarching response from animals is…

Please be more present.

Animals regularly share in sessions just how emotionally painful it is when “we are physically there with them, but we are not present”. They notice when we’ve been spending hours (weeks?) holding our breath. They feel it when we’ve been out of touch with our body and rushing around too fast. They can sense when we aren’t present to receive the unconditional love they offer. And they get confused when we are checked out and unable to say what we mean and speak from the heart.

In sessions animals regularly share with their humans all the things they do to try to help their overly distracted humans be more present…. like cats who stare-glare at us for hours or sit on our keyboards while we scroll Instagram, or dog friends who drop toy after toy at the feet of their human feet, only to hear “not now”.

Presence is powerful. There is a reason we reach for things like massage, yoga, meditation, journaling and my personal favorite —walks in the forest. They help us put down what’s got us tied up in stress knots so we can be more present. And when we get out of our heads, drop into our bodies and be in the now, being present feels really good.

When we do, our connections with our animal friends deepen and our communication becomes more clear.

Consider yourself lucky if you live with an animal teacher requesting more presence from you…

Friends, partners, and family may not even notice if you’re not 100% present with them, and when they do, they may not even speak up. But our animals feel, sense and see it, and when we are lucky, they boldly support us to make a change.

Dogs that push your edges on walks when we are “taking them for a walk — rather than going for a walk WITH them,

Dogs that paw at your phone begging you to put it away so you can enjoy each others company,

And cats yowling about a half full food dish when you’re trying to work,

Are all some of the ways your animals might be trying to get your attention to say ,”Whoops! You forgot to be in the here and now!”

Image:  A photo I took of old dogs Whiskey and Raspberry on one of our daily strolls through the forest. Raspberry (the tan and black dog on the right) was a master at teaching presence and simply did not allow me to “take her for walks', insisting only that we walk together, slowly to enjoy each other's company and conversations among the trees, ferns and moss.

Being present in daily life is hard AF

Here’s the thing though. Even though we KNOW it’s important to be more present and that we SHOULD try harder to do so, most of us missed out on learning HOW to be present. Instead, we learned how to escape, or numb, or distract ourselves.

And all of those energetic survival skills and habits we do in place of being present (like spacing out while we look at our phones) make it even harder to switch gears and drop in to focus on what matters most to us…. like our time with our animal friends.

The thing I’ve learned about presence in the last 27 years of working with energy, intuition  and the body professionally is that it’s not a one-off thing we learn to do. We might have a really great massage, feel connected with our body and then get in our car, hear some terrible news on the radio that triggers a cascade reaction within us and we are right back out of our body and checked out of the now.

Knowing this, I've put regular check-ins with my center multiple times a day on my daily self-care todo list. I’ve found it really helps too to regularly talk with my animal friends about the different ways they  remind me to be more present throughout the day.

I’d love to share a meditation - love spell with you. It will help you make the pledge to be more present and drop back into the now. I promise your animal friends will thank you!

P.S. It’s okay if you don’t have an animal friend right now. Do this anyway and as you do, think of an animal who is living or in spirit that you’ve deeply loved. :)

Let’s tune inward

An animal loverslove spell to help you embody presence in the everyday

To help you be more present with the animals in your life, I invite you to make a pledge to your animals so they know you are working on being more present. If you’re reading this on the move, I invite you to bookmark this and try again when you can cozy up, settle in and give it your all. Snuggling with your animal friends if they are nearby is encouraged with this one!

To start, I invite you to sense into one or two areas of your life that you want to be MORE present with your animal friends.

Perhaps you want to be more present on walks so you can take time to sniff the air and notice your surroundings together,

Or while you are preparing your cat’s meal so you can hear their intuitive voice more clearly,

Or perhaps when you brush them so the activity can shift from being a chore to being one of bonding and connection….

When you feel you have settled on one or two times in your life you want to give your animals more presence. I invite you to make your pledge. Speak your pledge out loud to yourself or to your animal friends.

Pledge when you want to be more present and WHY you want to be more present out loud.

Verbalize it so your words become a love spell of presence.

Say it all with breath and presence and as many times as you need to feel it to be true. If you are speaking with your animal friends when you say this, perhaps even offer them an apology for all the times you weren’t present and thank them for their patience as you learn how to be more present so you can feel more connected with them.

Before shifting gears and doing something else… I invite you to give yourself a moment to fluff your pillows, adjust your seating, and shift things around so it feels a little easier to be here in the now. Softly move a part of your body just a little to draw your attention back to the now.

Give yourself time to feel your breath moving in your body.

Notice what opens, what releases with every intentional inhale and exhale you give yourself.

Settle into your skin and the now

and… give yourself a moment to hang out with your animal buddies and practice being in the now with them.

Thanks for tuning in with me today,

XO

Joanna
